There was a cinema in Seattle where Dave and I grew up that made chocolate popcorn we've never been able to forget. It was incredibly rich, perfectly dusted, and just the right amount of sweet.

When we started building out our flavor lineup, recreating that chocolate glaze was never a question. It had to be done. The result is our Choc-O-Pop Powder. Paired with your Popper, it makes chocolate popcorn that tastes like stepping back in time.

Just follow these steps:

Chocolate Popcorn Ingredients

Chocolate Popcorn Directions

Step 1: Preheat

Set your burner to medium heat and allow your Popper to preheat for 1-2 minutes.

Step 2: Add Oil and Kernels

Add the coconut oil and let it melt completely. Then once it's liquid, pour the kernels.

Step 3: Add Choc-o-Pop Powder

Once you hear the first kernel pop, pour in the Choc-O-Pop powder, place the lid on Popper, and start turning the crank clockwise.

PRO TIP: If you feel resistance at any point while cranking, a kernel has likely gotten caught behind the spinner. Just remove the lid, reset it, or give the pot a gentle shake to loosen up.

Step 4: Pop

Keep cranking steadily as the kernels pop. The Popper’s stirring mechanism does the heavy lifting here. It keeps the sugar in the powder from settling on the bottom and burning, which gives the popcorn an even coat and prevents it from going to waste.

GOOD TO KNOW: The Popsmith’s multi-clad metal bottom distributes heat evenly across the surface, which is especially important when you're working with a powder that can scorch. It's one of the reasons chocolate popcorn turns out so well in the Popper versus other methods.

Step 5: Remove

When popping slows to 1-2 seconds between pops, immediately remove the Popsmith from the burner and pour the chocolate popcorn into a huge bowl.

Step 6: Enjoy

Pair your chocolate popcorn with a good movie and enjoy while it’s still warm!

More Chocolate Popcorn Tips

  • Go sweet and salty: Combine a batch with buttery popcorn and toss them together. We swear the contrast is unbeatable.

  • Add heat: A pinch of cayenne or chili powder transforms this into chili chocolate popcorn

  • Mix it up: Fold in mix-ins like pretzels, Oreos, candy — the works.

  • Storage: Keep any leftover popcorn in an airtight container away from sunlight and consume within 5 days.

Cinema-Worthy, Couch-Ready

That rich chocolate coating. The way it melts on your tongue. The fact that you can taste every layer — cocoa, sugar, the perfect amount of salt from the popcorn underneath. This is the chocolate covered popcorn you've been missing.

Eat it straight from the bowl on movie night, or dress it up with pretzels, candy, and whatever else you've got for a backyard party. The Choc-O-Pop Powder handles the flavor, while your Popper takes care of the rest.
