Nacho Cheese Popcorn Ingredients
- ½ cup popcorn kernels
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- ¼ cup nutritional yeast
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
How to Make Nacho Cheese Popcorn
Step 1: Make Nacho Cheese Popcorn Seasoning
In a small bowl, mix nutritional yeast, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and salt together. Set aside for later.
GOOD TO KNOW: Nutritional yeast has a nutty, cheesy flavor, tasting quite similar to parmesan. That’s why it’s a popular vegan alternative to cheese.
Step 2: Heat
Set your stove to medium heat and let your Popper preheat for 1 to 2 minutes.
Step 3: Add Oil
Put coconut oil in the pot and allow it to melt.
Step 4: Add Kernels

Toss 3 test kernels into the Popper, then add in the rest when the first one pops.
Step 5: Pop

Cover the Popper and turn the crank clockwise while the kernels pop. This keeps them from sticking to one place and burning.
Step 6: Remove
When popping slows to 1-2 seconds between pops, take the Popper off the heat and transfer the popcorn to a big bowl.
Step 7: Combine
Sprinkle the nacho cheese popcorn seasoning over the popcorn and give the bowl a good shake to distribute the seasoning.
Step 8: Serve

Wait for steam to escape, then enjoy your nacho cheese popcorn!
More Nacho Cheese Popcorn Tips
-
Add a light oil spray if the seasoning isn't sticking. A quick spritz of oil or melted butter before seasoning gives the spices something to grab onto.
-
Season in stages. Add half the blend, toss, then add the rest. You'll get more even coverage than dumping it all at once.
-
Dial up the heat. Add cayenne a pinch at a time until you hit your spice threshold.
-
Go full nacho. Finish with fresh cilantro, pickled jalapeños, and a squeeze of lime to take your nacho cheese popcorn from snack to experience.
- More nutritional yeast = more cheesy depth. Don't be shy with it.
