  • ½ cup popcorn kernels

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil 

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean red chili flakes) (milder and fruitier than cayenne — don't substitute 1:1, start with less if you're heat-sensitive)

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds, for topping

  • Flaky salt, to taste

Step 1: Preheat

Set your stove to medium heat and let your Popsmith preheat for 1 to 2 minutes.

Add coconut oil, let it melt, and drop 3 test kernels. When the first kernel pops, pour in the rest and cover the Popper.

Crank the Popper continuously to keep the kernels moving. This prevents burning and ensures an even cook.

Step 4: Remove

When popping slows to about 1 to 2 seconds between pops, remove the Popper from heat and transfer the popcorn to a large bowl.

Combine the brown sugar, gochugaru, garlic powder, soy sauce, and sesame oil in a small saucepan over low heat. Whisk until the sugar dissolves and the mixture turns glossy, about 1 to 2 minutes.

Step 6: Toss and Coat

Drizzle the warm glaze over the popcorn immediately and toss quickly so it coats evenly before it starts to set.

Step 7: Finish and Serve
