White Cheddar Popcorn at a Glance
White cheddar popcorn is one of those flavors that earns its place on every grocery store shelf. Sharp, salty, and endlessly snackable, it’s right up there with classic kettle corn and butter popcorn as a crowd favorite.
Now the store-bought version is fine, but the homemade version made fresh in your Popper is on another level. Here's how to make it:
White Cheddar Popcorn Ingredients
- ½ cup popcorn kernels
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- ¼ cup white cheddar cheese powder
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- ⅛ tsp ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- Salt, to taste
How to Make White Cheddar Popcorn
Step 1: Preheat

Set your stove to medium heat and let your Popper preheat for 1 to 2 minutes.
Step 2: Add Oil
Add coconut oil into the pot and wait for it to melt.
Step 3: Pour Kernels

Toss 2-3 kernels into the pot. Add in the rest when the first one pops, then cover the Popper.
Step 4: Pop

Turn the Popper’s crank clockwise while the kernels pop to keep them from staying in one place and burning. No need to do this the whole time — a few cranks every couple of seconds will do the trick.
Step 5: Remove
When popping slows, remove the pot from the heat and pour the popcorn into a huge bowl.
Step 6: Make White Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning
Mix white cheddar powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.
Step 7: Combine
Drizzle the melted butter over the popcorn and toss the bowl so it coats all the kernels. Then gradually add the white cheddar popcorn seasoning. Toss the bowl again to distribute the flavoring.
Step 8: Serve Your White Cheddar Popcorn
Pour your freshly popped white cheddar popcorn into a bowl and enjoy!
More White Cheddar Popcorn Tips
- Use real white cheddar powder. The quality of your seasoning makes a big difference here. Look for white cheddar powder at specialty grocery stores or order online. It's worth it.
- Season in stages. Add the seasoning gradually and toss between additions. Dumping it all at once leads to uneven coverage and a salty bite at the bottom of the bowl.
- Dial it up. Want more punch? Add extra white cheddar powder, a pinch of cayenne for heat, or a squeeze of lemon juice to brighten the flavor.
- Mix it up. Fresh parsley adds color and depth. A pinch of taco seasoning gives it a Tex-Mex twist. Crumbled bacon takes it somewhere else entirely.
- Eat it fresh. This one doesn't improve with time. Make it, serve it, and finish the bowl.
Cheese the Day
Fair warning: One bowl is never enough on movie night. It's a good thing your Popper can have another batch ready before the opening credits are done.
