This Hot Dog-Inspired Popcorn Recipe Is a Total Winner

Think your game day spread is missing something? This hot dog-inspired popcorn fits the bill.

Seriously, hot dog-flavored popcorn?

Now we know what you’re thinking, but work with us here. We aren’t talking about the actual frankfurter. We mean the toppings that make it so irresistible — ketchup, mustard, and tangy pickle relish.

Promise, this popcorn is ridiculously delicious and a must for game day, a backyard party, or movie night. All you need is a pack of Oh Sooo Buttery Popcorn, a few ingredients, and your trusty Popper

Let’s get started:

Hot Dog Popcorn Ingredients

  • 1 Popsmith Oh Sooo Buttery Popcorn packet

  • 2 tablespoons freeze-dried pickle chips, chopped

  • 2 tablespoons Carolina BBQ rub

  • 2 teaspoons ketchup seasoning

Hot Dog Popcorn Directions

Step 1: Heat

Set your stove to medium heat and allow the Popper to preheat for 1 to 2 minutes.

Step 2: Add Oil

Cut open the coconut oil portion of the Oh Sooo Buttery Popcorn kit, squeeze it into the pot, and allow it to completely melt.

Step 3: Add Kernels and Buttery Salt

Now open the kernels and salt portions of the kit and toss 3 kernels into the Popper. When the first kernel pops, pour in the remaining contents of your popcorn packet and cover the pot. You don’t have to pour in all the salt if you prefer your popcorn less salty, though.

Step 4: Turn

Turn the crank clockwise while the kernels pop to prevent burning. You don’t have to do this the entire time — every couple of seconds does the trick.

Step 5: Remove

When popping slows to 1-2 seconds between pops, take the Popper off the heat and pour your popcorn into a huge bowl.

Step 6: Add Freeze-Dried Pickle Chips

Chop freeze-dried pickle chips and sprinkle them over the popcorn.

Step 7: Season

Mix powdered ketchup and Carolina BBQ rub and sprinkle gradually over the popcorn. Then give the bowl a good toss to distribute the seasonings.

More Hot Dog Popcorn Tips

  • Don’t have Carolina BBQ rub on you? Just use ground mustard and combine it with spices like paprika, ground cumin, chili powder, and cayenne pepper.

  • We don’t recommend swapping freeze-dried pickle chips for actual pickle relish. It will make your popcorn soggy.

  • Have leftover popcorn? Keep it in an airtight container away from sunlight and eat within 5 days.

Taking You Back to the Ballgame
