This Puppy Chow Popcorn Is Dangerously Good

Two favorite snacks collide in this puppy chow popcorn recipe!

Chex mix smothered in chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar — yeah, who wouldn’t be obsessed with puppy chow?

This classic treat is one of our favorites. However, we also think popcorn makes everything better, so we decided to combine the two together and make puppy chow popcorn.

The texture might throw you off at first, but after a few handfuls, you’ll be completely hooked. Plus making it in your Popper means you start with the perfect base every time!

Let’s get right to it:

Puppy Chow Popcorn Ingredients

  • ½ cup popcorn kernels

  • 2 tablespoons oil

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter

  • ¼ cup butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1½ cups powdered sugar

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Puppy Chow Popcorn Directions

Step 1: Heat

Set your stove to medium heat and let your Popsmith preheat for 1 to 2 minutes.

Step 2: Add Oil and Kernels

Pour oil into the Popper and toss in 3 kernels. When the first kernel pops, add the remaining and cover the lid.

Step 3: Turn

Turn your Popsmith’s crank clockwise as the kernels pop to prevent burning.

Step 4: Remove

When popping slows to 1-2 seconds between pops, take the Popper off the heat and remove the lid to let steam escape.

Step 5: Make Puppy Chow Popcorn Coating

Melt butter, chocolate chips, and peanut butter in 30-second microwave intervals. Then stir in vanilla extract and salt till smooth.

Step 6: Combine

Gradually drizzle the chocolate-peanut butter mixture over your popcorn in a large mixing bowl, stirring gently with a spatula between additions. Then sift powdered sugar over the popcorn.

Step 7: Set

Spread your popcorn on parchment paper and let set.

Step 8: Serve

More Popcorn Puppy Chow Tips

  • If you want the popcorn to set faster, keep it in the fridge for a few minutes.

  • Use dark chocolate instead of milk for a less sweeter version of this popcorn.

  • Work in batches instead of trying to cover all the popcorn at once. You get a more even coating this way.

  • Store any leftover popcorn in an airtight container and eat within 5 days (if it lasts that long).

Worth the Powdery Fingers

Whether you’re a lifelong fan of puppy chow (or muddy buddies, depending on where you’re from) or a major popcorn lover, this puppy chow popcorn deserves a spot in your

regular snack rotation. We won’t be surprised if you’ll make it part of your movie night ritual from now on. Just remember to make extra — it disappears fast!
